RV cam...

Seriously...there is a lot more to consider than just the cubes when selecting a cam.

Like said above you need to make it for the whole package, car weight, tranny , gears, stall (if auto) head flow.

Yea you need to look at what you want the motor to do and what your heads do and then get your head porter or someone that is knowledgeable about your wants to susgest a cam. My set up is almost like WS sick's Do some good research on this

Re: what cam for a 383?

If you want driveability be careful not ot go too big. Contact the cam tech line and tell them what other components you have and what cruise rpm you will have. Also determine what max. shift rpm you are shooting for. If you want to shift at 6000rpm avoid a cam that has 6800+ capability because the lower rpm driveability will suffer and the car will be alot less fun to drive.
I am planning a future 383 project and my personnal preference is to go with a smaller cam around 220-224 degrees @ .050 because I like higher torque at lower and mid-range rpm with smooth driveability manners. I do not race my car at the track, just like to enjoy the power on the street. I have built some engines with larger cams and they are fun at full throttle @ high rpm but found it much less enjoyable for daily street operation. Good luck with your project. Do lots of research up front and you will be glad you did. You can get lots of good advice on this site but remember that the personal preference of others may not match what you are trying to achieve.
