Talking What brand 17" tires to buy

I am looking at new tires for my 1996 SS. What brand tires do you guys suggest? Also will 255 40 17's work or do I need to get 245 40 17's?
Thanks

BFG KDWs are a great tire, verry sticky and not to expensive. they are also the best rain tire i have ever owned. as far as size if you have stock 17 inch wheels you have 17X9 and there for need a 275-40 17

I can't say enough about the BFG KDW that I just put on. Outstanding tire in all conditions if this is a daily driver. The sizes you are talking about don't sound right, on a 17 " the stock was 275/40/17. My 16x8 are 245/50/16 and could plus size to 255/50/16. Check with tires.com they will help.

I am on my second set of Firestone Firehawk SZ50s. In fact, they were just put on Friday. $879 to FedExed to my door by Tire Rack, $108 for new valve stems, balance, install at local shop. Size is P285/40ZR17 on Corvette Grand Sport rims.

I love these tires!!! Very grippy and work well with all the rain we get in south Louisiana. No clearance problems at all.

I'm going to give another vote for Firestone SZ50's. I had them on my 91 GTA and still have two on my 93 T/A (Nitto's in the rear now). Reasonably priced, and on my 93 they held up to three years of track abuse, and still had PLENTY of tread left, and they hook like no other. Just my $.02.

I use BFG KDW tires also.. they work real well dry or wet. Don't confuse them with the KDWS - those are ugly snow tires that don't grip as well. The BFG KD tires are also a good choice if you don't drive in the rain. I do a lot of interstate driving so I need some decent mileage from my tires.. IF I didn't put so many miles on it and it didn't rain so much here in FL then I'd get some Nitto's for sure! They're cheap too.

You could put some BFG's on the front and Nitto's on the back
Just keep in mind that most do well to get 15,000 miles out of their nittos
