What are the best Long Tubes....
What are the best Long Tubes....
....for a budget? I am looking for LTs for my 97 Formula, and I would like to get the cheapest/best headers I can get, coated or uncoated. And where is the best place to get them? How are these? dynatech
Emissions isn;t a huge concern, so i don't really need the 02 bungs. Please help me out... The only mods i have now are K&N FIPK, 160degree stat, shift kit, and a flowmaster 3 inch cat back exhaust, and I feel that long tubes are the best next mod., what do you guys think?

you have to have O2 bungs wether or not you care about emissions you need them for your car to run. They each have their pro's and con's do a search the diff's i have heard are.
jet hot
pros. Cheaper, emissions hook ups. More ground clearance i believe.
cons. I have heard they have a problem with collector being to close to tranny crossmember i think. lately i have read of nightmare installs with them.
Hookers
pros. No tranny crossmember problems, great plug access.
Cons. Expensive, ground clearance problems, no emissions hookups.
Dynatech = FLPS.
Pros. Good ground clearance
Cons. Horrible plug access, no emissions hookup, you have to buy the collectors to make them work so they are about 600 complete.
I don't have LT's i have midlengths but these are the problems i have read about daily on this forum.

Yes longtubes are a great mod, most people net 25+ hp, but the Dynatech LT's require you to buy bolt on collectors, which is bad inless you are running True Duals. Jet Hot LT's seem to be the cheapest coated LT's but uncoated I believe you can get Hooker LT's uncoated for like $410. You'll probibly need a new Y-pipe with the addition of LT's

All of those are correct and thats why I went with Jet-Hot. Customer service is great, the coating has a lifetime warranty, and they're the cheapest coated LTs. I dont have a problem really with the tranny crossmember myself but it is quite close. Overall, I couldnt be happier.
I have the Hooker longtubes with the Jet Hot Coating. Even if there weren't any performance gains to be had, they were well worth the purchase for the ease of spark plug changes alone!
However, as others has said, the Jet Hot brand headers are a great choice and they are cheaper. From my understanding, the Jet Hot brand headers were based off of the Hooker design. Either way you can't go wrong with the Hooker's or the Jet Hot's. If you do decide to go with the Hooker longtubes, do not purchase them uncoated!

The collector does sit VERY close to the trans X-member. I had to grind and hammer the trans brace flat near the collector and have the Y-pipe flattened to provide clearance. Even now I have about 1/8" between the y-pipe and the trans brace retaining bolts on the driver's side.
The aftermarket Y-pipes also don't work worth a s#@%. They are supposed to use the same Y-pipe as the Hooker headers. Didn't even sort of work.
Aside from those two snags...it's a total pain getting the EGR tube to install and air-tube fitting adapters are needed for 97 model cars (cost is $24). The headers go in relatively easy and sit nice in the car. They tuck in well along the underside and do not sit low at all. Power gains are definetly felt and the engine bay doesn't get excessively hot with the coating on them.
Hope this info helps.
