Went to the exhaust shop today...
I went to the local exhaust shop that builds custom exhausts. I printed a picture of true duels i found while doing a search on hear. He said that would give me the deep loud noise im looking for but it would take away from my low end torque. Is this true. He also said he could run a full 3 inch exhaust and cut the cat out. Putting a 2 chamber delta flow on it with 3.5 or 3 in tips. Does any one know or have this system if so what does it sound like. Im looking for a loud deep sound so people can hear me coming. hehe.
Get a cutout! $25, $50 to install and you get a beefy sounding exhaust. He's correct that you will lose lowend torque. I dynoed a 1993 Camaro once doing a run with the cutout open and another run with it closed. According to the readouts the torque loss was minimal on lowend but higher on the high end. Of course this was with a Dynomax muffler which is pretty free flowing to begin with. Had I had a Flowmaster or something the effects would have been more dramatic I believe.
you don't LOSE low end power or torque, it just shifts it to a higher powerband. I'm not sure what happened above, but thats the only one I've heard of losing torque across the powerband.
Personally, I don't need any more low end torque on my street car, I already can't keep it planted in first.0

true duals??????
my duals sound great, but, as far as dual 3 inch exhaust i dont think it is really needed unless you are going over about 500 ponies.mine are 2 and half and im sure thats all ILL ever need.if they are gonna try and do dual 3 inch out the back, somebodys gonna have to do some work to get it to clear all the crap on the rear end.look in the search for pics of my duals, like i said they are 2 and half and was a real handful to get over the axle in the stock location.
if your torque peak moves to a higher rpm but actual torque stays the same then that is losing low end torque. if you dont have a stall that will get you closer to that new tq peak then it will feel sluggish coming out of the hole. you could actually move your peak up to a point where your heads wont flow enough and will lose power. regardless of how much air you have going out your heads will only allow so much to come in this is called overscavenging and if you go do a search in some magazines you will see this effect will cause you to lose power. a single 3in. pipe will flow enought o support 450hp so if you want duals just to have duals then go for it but if you want to go faster unless you plan on spraying or adding a supercharger just go with a great catback and when you just want to be loud get a cutout. alot o fpeople get a straight through exhaust and it gets loud as hell and they THINK they are making big power. your motor wont have the rpm ability to get to where the peak hp will be.
