went for a dyno tune lost oil pressure
went for a dyno tune lost oil pressure
well i went for a dyno tune in connecticut and all did not go well
made 5 pulls and was ok untill the last one, right before we went to go wot we watched the oil pressure gauge jump then go to 0 so we imediatly shut her down, checked for oil leaks checked dipstick and checked sending unit, all was ok, restarted car, souded ok but still no oil so we shut it down again right away
started it again and heard clacking from the valve covers so we knew something in the oil pump assembly isent working and we imediatly shut it down again,
what could it be? drive gear under the intake manifold, oil pickup broke off, oil pump siezed
i have a melling oil pump not sure if its high volume
engine is a 396 built with loose clearences and has a canton pan on it, i just did an oil change before i went to the dyno, i was told to use 20w 50 oil as i have been for the past 2 years
whats invoved wiht getting the pan off while the engine is still in the car. do i have to drop the k member for more clearence whith a 396?

My first thought would be to pull the intake and look at the oil pump drive before you go through all the trouble of pulling the motor to get the oil pan off, unless you have a tubular K-member and can remove the pan easily that is...
update:
pulled intake and oil pump drive gear and found 4 teeth sheerd off compleatly , the rest of them are paper thin, shiney and razor sharp, was it installed wrong? ill get pics up monday night, is my cam gear ok, im getting a oil pump priming tool and im going to prime the system to see if i get oil to the rockers and hopfully i dont have to drop my pan, i have to get those pieces out some how

I remember a post in the last year or so where someone had the same problem, might want to search.
I bet you mixed 2 different kinds of metals together that did not like eachother there. Might want to check with the cam manufactorer and also the people that made the oil pump. A local machine shop should beable to tell you what goes together and what does not.
