Angry Went to adjust the valve lashing and this happens!

Today I was going to re-adjust my vavle lash while my car was running.
I have done this before and just want you opinon if its normal.

You know you normally warm up the car to 160* before you do the adjusting, well I did that and I turned it off so I can unbolt the valve covers....

After I got that all done I started the car up and oil came out of the right front head like a water fountain and got all over my brother and the right fender and windsheild and the complete right side of the engine bay... It was just pizzin like a mother F'er, so I turn the car off and now I got this oil every where...

Like I said I have done this adjusting before and it never did this to me and I have done this 3 times...

Can anybody tell me what seems to be the problem?

Thanks

That's pretty much what happens when you adjust the presets with the engine running.JMHO

That one was loose I'll bet. If you notice when you loosen them they start to spew more, but I have never seen one shoot like that.

I found out where the leak is coming from exactly and its coming from the small hole where the push rod goes... I checked the rod and its not bent, so I tightend it down and it still pizzes like crazy... The left side doesnt even do that on the right.
Just that 1 push rod and rocker arm on the right that is doing that.

There is a little disc inside the lifter just under where the pushrod fits into it. It could be that it is lodged in there crooked. It restricts oil flow to the valve train and if its open your going to get a full 50 to 60 psi of oil straight in the face! The only probablem it will really cause is that the lifter will bleed down faster than the others.

But getting a little oil in the face is pretty normal for a hot valve adjustment. Wear a face sheild and wash everything off when your finished. That or just warm the engine up, and adjust them warm without the engine running.

Just put a piece of cardboard on the side of the head (the length should be similar to valve covers length and the height about 10 inches). The oil coming out of the pushrods will hit the card board and then go back to the head....

ps. I did that many times…

I also use card board around the head when adjusting valves works great.
