weird smell after 130
I went WOT on the highway once, and after i passed 3rd gear, and kept pulling in 4th gear, at about 130-140 there was a burning smell... cant really explain it, but didnt smell good :P
what can that be from? i had ****ty tires, can that be why? it never does this unless i'm going pretty farking fast...
(yeah i know going that fast isnt smart, but i was curious whats the fastest i can go, and i let go after i smelt that thing)

Did it smell like burning plastic? Coming from INSIDE the car? With that long of a period of WOT, I bet the heater core box in the engine bay started to get a bit warm. I know mine does after just a short drive on the highway (3200rpm at 60), but thats with longtubes that come very close to that box.

I'll check the fluid...
my tranny was rebuilt i think... cuz at 96K miles, its shifting better than my roomates's 30K mile 98 z
i chirp tires all the time
there was also a speker wire that the prev person put on that i noticed melted into the back of engine (which i need to take out :P) but that wouldnt make it smell only if i'm going real fast...
the tires i had were T rated, and when i took it to the tire place they said i could have gotten a blow out if i went another day with them (inside was ripped he said)
now i have W rated tires
I'll go check the fluid now

bad smell
My oil temp gauge usually reads 220F but when I pegged my speedo (155MPH +), it registered 260F+ and had that burning smell. It's an A4, but the tranny held up for another 50thous miles, so I doubt any damage done to the tranny. I guess the higher engine temps just burned the gaskets like valve cover and other simple stuff.
