Weird noise from passenger VC

When I parked my car just now outside, I could hear a kind of higher pitched noise coming out of my driver side valve cover. Can't tell what it is right now because it's too dark. I was just wondering what could possibly be causing this. And also, I've never taken a VC off, what's the procedure to take off and put on.

too add on it, it seems to go away when I open throttle. I'm going back outside to do a quick double check.

Just got back in, I think it may be the alternator making a kind of screech which is the noise I was hearing, but I'm not completely sure still.
Is there anything under the VC that could even make that kind of noise.

If the noise is constant, it's probably the alternator. Noises from the valvetrain are mostly rythmic, especially at idle.
The alternator and AIR check valve (usually) have to be removed to get the valve cover off.

okay, it was constant. If the alternator is squeaking is it getting ready to go out?
