can you elaborate on the BRRRR does it sound like grinding metal, knocking metal... electric motor dieing? what would you assume it is by the sound... how long... wheres it coming from?

It could be your fuel pump, they will turn on for 2-3 seconds to prime the fuel system. It is possible your system is not holding pressure. If it only happens once after sitting for a while, try pulling the fuel pump fuse (after it has been sitting) and listen for the noise on key on, engine off. Then try it with the fuse in. Also have someone listen at the fuel filler neck with the gas cap off. If the noise is present with the fuel pump fuse in and you hear it at the fuel filler neck then have someone check your fuel pres. leak down. It should hold pressure for at least a few hours. If not then possibly your pressure regulator is leaking or check valve at your fuel pump. It may also be your abs self check, but I think this happens after the engine is started, I would have to check on this.

Was going to suggues the same thing... sounds like the fuel pump to me... When you start the car, just turn the key to the ACC position, before engaging the starter... you should be able to hear the pump, and the noise if thats the problem.

My car's been doing the same thing and it's definitely cold related. It lasts only a couple seconds, so I can never pinpoint it. I disconnected my air pump a couple days ago(fuses blowing on that) & the noise is still there.
This morning was really really cold (gotta love Canadian winters ) and it lasted for a good minute. I popped the hood and it seemed to be coming from the alternator
I'm guessing it's that...makes sense too since the noise increases with the throttle.
Is that a possibility?
