which way is up on this head gasket??

fixing to install my Impy gaskets, does the part # go up or down? I'm using ARP head bolts, can someone tell me the proper torque sequence with these bolts. All it says with the bolt is go to 65lbs. I thought your supposed to do like a two step process or something??? I dont have an angle wrench, so I'm not sure if I go the factory route if i can get it right. Its saying something bout 67 degrees past blah blah.....help me out!!!

I searched on here, and then ended up posting a thread about it. No one had a definite answer, so i went with the general consenses and installed it smooth side down. One side is a little more textured than the other, install that side up. I don't remember if the PN's were up or down, sorry. no problems after 3 months.

when i did mine, i put #'s up (i asked on here, and that was the consensus). they werent impy gaskets though, but the regular fbod ones. i doubt itd be different. 3 months no prob

im pretty much 100% certain you shouldnt torque em down to max spec on the first shot (warp the heads). i dont remeber wether i used a 2 step process to tightening them or a 3 step i think i did something like 15, 35, 65. im sorry, i just dont remember. but, i guarantee it aint a 1 step

Sometimes instead of using torque values especially for important bolts such as head bolts, they are starting to use degrees of rotation past 0 lash (is that what its called when the bolt head touches the surface). Torque can sometimes be innaccurate if there is rust/lubrication on the threads for example. With degrees of rotation there is no questioning the torque value. I'm sure you can improvise with a protractor used in conjunction with a breaker bar or something like that.

They should be tightened in 3 steps to the 65 lbs-ft. Here is the sequence.

17 9 1 6 14
13 5 2 10
16 12 8 4 3 7 11 15

Thankx for all the replies guys!! I've noticed several posts about this myself (as stated above) that no one can come up with a def. answer to which side is up or the torque sequence. By sequence, I mean like 20 lbs -40 - then the final 65lbs. not which bolt to tighten. I'm going with the part # side up (rough side up) and I guess go 25lbs-45lbs and the final 65ftlbs. Thanks again, Chris......
