Way to measure cam dowel pin legnth?....
Hey guys,
I am changing my optispark today, and was wondering if there was a way to measure the legnth of the cam dowel pin while the cam was still in the car. Car is a 1997 so the length matters. I think my opti failed pre-maturely so I want to check it. Is there a way to measure this legnth without removing the cam? And how long should it be? |
maybe something like a tire tread depth gauge? or a set of calipers....
|
There are plenty of calipers out there that could measure it for you. Just find somebody that works with lathes or in a machine shop.
|
I have heard of people putting alittle bit of grease or clay in the opti and put the opti up there, then see how much of an indentation the pin made into the clay
|
How far should the pin go inside the opti is 100/1000 enough? or??

OK but I have heard from respectful enigine builders just double checking that as long as it comes out pass 100/1000 pas the bolts thats more than good enough... Thats why I was asking...Anyone else agree to this?
|
The way to measure it is from the face of the cam.
|
YEs I did know that thanks for the input I was just checking the other way.. Mine is about .620 from the face...
So that should be more than good enough to go with ? Thanks |
My stocker was ~ .650", but your should be ok.
