waterpump worries

What ussualy goes when a waterpump failes and causes it to leak all over. I just instaled a new opti on a 100 000 mile engine and think the waterpump is still original and dont want it to wreck the new opti like everyone says will happen when the waterpump goes?
When the opti was installed the mechanic said he installed new seals and gaskets on the waterpump is that what ussualy goes and causes it to leak.

Re: waterpump worries

there is an internal seal that shields the bearings from the coolant. that wears out at some point and coolant escapes from the internal cavity of the pump through the seal, through the bearing, through the weep hole, right into your new opti change the pump! later!

Re: waterpump worries

When I did my opti swap I just did the waterpump to be safe. It already had 10 years on it, and even if it did only have 37k or so, I'd so do it just to be safe.
