Waterpump questions??
Waterpump questions??
I'm having waterpump issues, (3 pumps in 4 months) I have been told that the bearing in the waterpump driveshaft is bad & the vibrations are causing the seals and the bearing in the waterpump to go bad. Does this make sense?? So I have just decided to go with an electric waterpump and what I'm wondering is do I have to remove that waterpump driveshaft or can I do an electric waterpump and still leave that in place, so that I don't have to remove the timing cover and all of that good stuff? Also if my "stock pump" is leaking out of the weep hole will this still be ok to use as the housing for the electric one or will it just continue to leak out of there?
Thanks in advance for all of your help...

Re: Waterpump questions??
Yep, you can use your stock housing even if it's weeping out of that hole. Mine was doing the exact same thing, it would dump a sh*tload of coolant on the ground randomly. Took it apart and the impeller was wobbling all around. I got a CSI water pump and left the old water pump shaft in the engine (no timing cover removal). I used the stock housing with a 160* thermostat, and now it cools like a dream. I still don't have LT1edit to turn my fans on earlier, yet my engine never gets above 170. Go electric!

Re: Waterpump questions??
the CSI requires no modification to the fan shroud, it just fits right up against it. I think the mezeire says it will require "mild modification" to the fan shroud, "extensive modification" for the heavy duty model. You will have to do some grinding on the stock housing in order for the 4 CSI pump "keys" to fit into it, but that's as hard as it gets. The link biobob posted says it all.
