waterpump drive gear removal?
waterpump drive gear removal?
I purchased an lt4 ED timing chain that has the waterpump gear with it and just wanted to make sure that I'm removing the stock one right. All that you have to do is loosen the bolt behind the block wall correct? Also does anyone know what the torque is for that bolt? Thanks
You need to change the gear and will have to knock it outta the block from the intake plenum side. I used a gear puller to change it. Just make sure your careful with the retainer ring. That was the one hold up I had when doing my motor. It is very porous and soft and breaks real easy.

I disagree.. The stock gear is the EXACT same gear as the ED one.. So unless your stock one is broke don't even worry about it dude... Honestly! You won't be putting a stronger gear or anything so like I said if your stock one is fine then just move on..

I dont know if you changed yours before but the stock one doesnt look that strong and I dont know what its made of. I also believe that when changing the gears your should change them all to get the right mesh. Thats the reason they give you another one in the first place. But it is up to you. I figure if your in there you should do it right the first time.

Got tired of those STUPID waterpump seals leaking
Then just this last rebuild I decided on the cloyes double roller... That thing is PIMP!! True double roller chain for $70
Then turned around and sold my ED for $182... Couldn't go wrong on that deal
Well I tried to get it out yesterday and it was being more of a hassle than it was worth. I looked at the gear and it wasn't worn at all and I also took the old cam sprocket and matched it up against the new water pump gear and it was a perfect match so instead of breaking something I just left it alone. I thought that it really dosn't really have to handle tons of torque or anything so I think that it will be just fine.
Thanks for your replies. Everyone on this site is so helpful, if somebody can't help they will find someone who can! That rocks
