waterpump drive gear?

I got a call from my engine builder a couple days ago and he said that the gear that drives the waterpump was no good. I went in there this morning and he showed me the part and (i dont know what the exact part name is) the teeth on the smaller end of the gear were totally sheared off... I was wondering if this is common and if you can get that part somewhere other then GM be cause i wont be able to get that new part till mid-late november according to the builder. It has taken them over 2 months to get this far because they have been waiting for GM to ship parts. ..... is that normal for GM or is it just with LT1 parts?

gm part number 10128334.
gmpartsdirect appears to have them in stock. you coul dalso give your local parts store a call with that part number and see what they come up with.

credit goes to shoebox's site, shbox.com for the part number.

another option you have is to convert to an electric water pump, and seal the hole on the timing cover.

A 3rd option is to ask for one in parts wanted because there ought to be a bunch of people with them laying around (due to electric pumps), if they're not lost.

i talked to him again this morning and we are going with an electric wp, thanks for the responses. Now I just gotta get them to hurry up and get the car done. As far as im concerned it shouldnt take 2 months to rebuild an engine. ...especially for what im paying them

Shops always seem that way. I think they prioritize based on who complains the most, and if you told them it was no hurry or didn't agree on a completion date, you better start bugging them.

Re: waterpump drive gear?

How many miles were on that gear set? Only heard of them wearing excessively on the LT4 HD sets if the stock gear drive is used. My builder didn't use the wp gear that came with the LT4 HD timing gear set and mine had significant wear in less than 10k miles. Was making alot of noise which caused me to tear it apart and discover the gear with the kit was not used. The lt4 HD gear only has 3 holesin it and is a harder metal to match the timing gear hardness. Wp gear was worn and timing gear was fine. Order the entire LT4 HD wp gear assembly and has been flawless for 30k miles now.
