water pump probs
Just curious if anyone else has had bad luck like me with mechanical water pumps. First prblem was the day i had the new motor dynoed (few months ago) whe i was heading home the impeller blades somehow came lose from its pressing on the gear shaft.
Now, about 3 weeks ago now, went to the track with a new pump on, ( had been a month or 2 with new one) secnd run down the track one of the 3 pressed fitting, the big one on the right, blew out going down the track dumping all my coolant. Anyone else having problems like this?

With the OEM it lasted about 10 years. With my Kragen rebuild, it lasted 2 years... although it didn't leak much, I did see a small rust spot around the weep hole and so I had unlimited replacements and replaced the pump before anything happened. It isn't too bad to do if you've done it once.
Anyways, there is a difference in quality between the OEM and aftermarket remans. I'm going to try an WP lube this time and see if it helps the WP seal. Just keep your receipts if it is non-OEM for your free replacement units.

Only guy I know who repeatedly twisted off impellers has a car running deep into the 9s, not normal.
Never heard of one of the pressed fitting blowing out before.
I have Advance Auto remans on both cars, sofar so good, believe they are done by Cardone which does a lot under different store brands.

Im gonna take this one off, get a new one with the lifetime warranty and ive been told i can put some bolts (tap some holes)through the pressed fittings to hold them in, with sealant to keep water from seeping out, and also have the impeller welded on. Hopefully that will hold it,anyone know of any reasons i shouldnt try that?
If not i will try and get an oem one, i thought gmpp would have a HD one but i cant seem to find anything on it,i know the stock wp lasted around 117k miles.

I'm not sure if you can weld an impeller due to the metallurgy... but maybe so. Be careful about high RPM balance issues that may arise. If the weld is not balanced then it may cause a wobble... I'm guessing. Unless you were talking about JB Weld then I suppose you could smear it all around evenly.
