Hi how are you all?
I just took off my water pump, but I never saw any O-rings that I have seen mentioned here on the board. Did they maybe break off or fall apart???? How do they look and where exactly on the shaft do they go??? any visuals or pics anyone?????
I dont want to put the water pump on without knowing if i need these or what should replace once im there.
Also any tips on how to remove the old water pump gasket...I mean the stuff is just caked on there..hahahahahh
or any water pump tips would be greatly appreacciated.

Mine didn't have them either when I changed the front cover gaskets (I did them all). Mine was not leaking at the WP seal either. I am guessing in the 99K miles leading up to my water pump replacement that the seals got cooked and broke down to nothing. Either that or they were not installed from the factory. I forgot to install new ones when I replaced the front cover seals. No leaks so far (only 3,000 miles ago).
I have read here that the rings are designed to keep the metal coupling from shifting around and bumping into the WP seal. My coupler was so dirty it took considerable force to get both ends back onto the coupling. I don't think mine is going anywhere.
That being said, I am planning a Cam install this spring and I will be installing the little rings at that time. I figure if GM made them, the might have had a reason

You should have grooves on that shaft that comes out from your timing chain which connects to your water pump. there should be 2 grooves for 2 orings.. If those grooves arent there then... there would be no place to put the orings on ... and if thats the case dont put any on.. maybe some year camaros are different??
I'd recommend going electric water pump. 7-10rwhp, very easy to bleed, and easy to change again. Very happy with my CSI.
