Water pump housing questions (pics)
Water pump housing questions (pics)
Took off the wp to install an ewp. One of the inlet tubes has a substantial amount of rust on it. Is this normal? None of the other ones have rust. Can I assume there was a leak there and ditch the housing? Also, in removing the wp impeller and bearing, there seems to have been some damage done to the raised aluminum portion. in the shaft area. This won't affect anything, since the freeze plug will be installed over that correct?

are you installing this for the small amount of hp or for the extra cooling? because some say that you must remove something else inside the engine to get any hp out of it. do a search on it.
I put mine in there when my car was running hot. the splines were worn down on the piece that joins the empeller to the motor.
as for the damage, just make sure the freeze plug wont leak because you dont want to ruin your opti. you might want to get a new wp housing if the damage is too bad.

Judging by the hole in the pic and the wear on the housing, I would say there was a good bit of movement in the impeller. I would put some epoxy around the freeze plug. It looks like there would be a gap around it if you didn't. You could always weld it.
