Water leak...

Looking for suggestions on what this could be.

I noticed a leak last year before I parked my Camaro for the winter that was very small. Few drops here and there. Today however, the leak was bad, a pretty consistent drip.

Here is what I am positive of, please give me the benefit of the doubt and do not say it could be these things...

There is no water coming from a hose, or any fitting that a hose runs to.
There is no leak coming from the water pump gaskets.
There is no leak coming from the water pump bolts.
There is no leak coming from the weep hole on the water pump.

The leak is coming from behind the water pump, and running down the front of the opti.

I know there is a shaft, but what is the leak? Could the rubber seal on that shaft have gone bad and that is what needs to be replaced?

What else could it be from that area before I pull the water pump off?

Also, the seals are brand new from august of last year when I rebuilt the engine, but maybe they're faulty?

Any suggestions?

Is there another weephole on the water pump?

I guess my main question is this.

Take a look at this diagram.

If the seals labeled 156 are bad, would that cause a water leak? Or does water not come into contact with them?

Re: Water leak...

It can leak around where the shaft goes into the rear of the water pump. The splined shaft and turbine are pressed into the water pump. Similar to the seals in the timing cover. And since you ruled out all the other places the leak could come from, that sounds like it's going to be the problem.

Either buy a new water pump or you could go electric and put a freeze plug where that shaft/seal used to be.

156 isn't there to seal water.

Those seals have nothing to do with water. If it is leaking out because of the shaft, it could come out the weep hole or maybe from the back of the shaft seal, itself.

Then that is what it is. I am positive it is coming from behind it, as I can see that it is running down the entire opti.

So a new water pump is on the list.

That's what I thought, but I always thought it would weep if something went bad. I didn't know it could leak from the shaft area and not come out of the weep hole.
