It wasn't the alternator......Now what???
hey guys. id 1st off like to thank you for all the help you gave in my old alternator problem post, which was here:

I installed my new alternator today, and while it idled higher and didnt die while idling, the guages were still messed up. the low trac light flickered here and there and the abs inop light was on at all times, UNLESS the parking brake was up, at which point it went off. now i jammed the brakes in the sand and no ABS, so the ABS isnt working, thats for sure. the test will be to see if there is any voltage loss while she sits overnight. assuming there isnt, or even if there is, what could be up with my ABS system? if you recall, it literally happened over night.

when my battery went bad it started messing with the guages. one time my car died when i was driving and every light on the dash came on. i though my alternator was shot. i had my battery and alternator tested and my battery was bad. i have no problems anymore.
Good idea to check the grounds. I've seen the ABS act up when the wheel speed sensors get loose. The gap for the Wheel Speed Sensor and the "tone wheel" should be 1mm. Also, make sure that no teeth are missing on the wheels and that they are clean. It is an easy check...
damn, i was hoping i wouldnt have to check all the grounds. where would you guys think (in addition to the mentioned areas) i might want to specifically look for this bad ground, since its abs related. ill check whats mentioned but i want to look other places that may be likely. is there a chance that my ABS relay just went bad? fuses are fine, but ive heard that popping every so often.......battery was tested at sears, passed fine!
thanks!

Make sure you check the ground wire near the battery, this ground is known to loosen and cause the problems you are having. It's the ground that bolts to the inner fender near the battery, take it loose and clean and tighten it.
There is also a ground junction up front on the passenger side of the radiator core support... may need to remove the plastic radiator support (3 - 10mm bolts).
Also, a quick check is under the front on the sub-frame on the inside. It is a ground strap that is attached from the sensor ground to the body. You can see it if you go under your car and look to the inside of the subframe on the driver's side... can't miss it. The is very close to the ABS but I can't tell if it is actually part of that ground... should be tight and CLEAN.

You wouldn't happen to have traction control would you?
If that doesn't work, then the ABS seems to not work either.
My brothers 96 Trans Am had that happen, and as soon as he fixed the Traction control, ABS started to work too.

interesting turn of events.........
well i backed the car out and all the same problems persisted. then i put it in neutral and they went away. drove it fine, parked it at the parts store and i thought things were back to normal as in a-ok. so i start it back up, put it in reverse, and all the lights kick on. make my turn, put it in 1st and they all go out again. as a final test i JAMMED the breaks on a sandy road (aka my street) and ABS worked fine. so now it looks like an issue with reverse. does this point me to a particular bad ground or anything???
