Did you cover the opti when you sprayed it? If not, you may have killed it. Let it dry for awhile and see what happens.

Sounds like the opti as previously stated, also the gas smell would be from unburned gas in the cylinder from the spark not reaching the plug, since the opti didnt fire that one off.

If you knew about the optispark being water sensitive you get the Hellen Keller of the Day award...

Re: washed the engine and....help

most def opti... the tach problem you noticed was an opti symptom.. that 4 wire harness is where the tach singal originates on our cars....

hi res fail, lo res fail (MALF/DTC 16 and 36)

get it scanned i'd be willing to bet you have low res and probably also high res...

like prev stated, let it dry.. if you have a 93-94, it has a drain at the bottom, i think... 95-97, will be tougher to get the water out of there if there is any.. u don't wanna run it cause u'll short it out...

either take it apart and let it all dry then try putting it back together with new seals possibly OR try blowing lots of air inside the opti with a compressor hoping to get the water out.. note you have to blow in the vacuum line coming from the intake elbow not the intake manifold... and that this is for 95-97 only... and it might damage your opti who knows... so only do this if ur prepared to possibly buy a new one...

anyway.. don't go to a ****ing mechanic, suck it up and figure out how to do this job yourself, its not that hard, do a google search. and if you are gonna replace the opti, which u might have to do, u might consider a better one like the msd or a delteq/ltcc system......

if u want a reason why u shoulnd't have a mechanic do it, look at my posts about it (12 second car running like 20 second after opti install, and something else about the tach wire i forget what its called cause im a bit drunk after FINALLY fixing mine myself after the dealer ****ed me hard with a sandpaper condom..)

anyway, even if you take the opinions as a grain of salt... people will probably agree that the info i just mentioned is valid.. anyway... good luck, peace out.. let us know how you do..

oh yeah.. if you DID know about the opti's water/moisture sensitivity.. you are a hellen keller award nominee... no offense.. but.. ITS A POS DESIGN, KEEP IT AWAY FROM ANYTHING CONDUCTIVE/CORROSIVE/ANYTHING THAT ISN'T AN INERT GAS!

to get all the oil (which causes wires to not be happy) off of it.... (my guess?)

i just think ppl should power wash them with things that aren't conductive or corrosive.... like... argon ...... and not run the engines for a few days after they wash them....

really i don't know what you could wash a 93-94 with and have it get clean... and yet hope it'd survive...

You don't need to powerwash it. Get some rags and some Simple Green and take some time to do it.

Okay okay before you guys tear him a new *** I'm gonna step out and say.....

No joke, I've powerwashed my engine multiple times, and never had an opti-spark problem. And I'm talkin hammered it. Sprayed degreaser all over it, power washed it, then used some tire dressing and shined it all up. Car ran like a champ. Soon as the new 355 goes back in I'll hammer it again. Maybe I have the golden indistructable opti who knows.

And however I do not reccomend it, I suggest covering it up before taking such action. I will not condone pressure washing the LT1.
