Warm up?
Warm up?
How many here warm up their car and how long do you let it warm up before taking off? I know everyone does it when it's cold outside but what about average days? I ask because Ive made it a habbit to not move until my rin or lin starts moving. Before I had Scanmaster I'd just wait until the water temp gauge moved. Some days I'm in a hurry so I dont have time for a warm up. I noticed the a/f ratio is around the 11's and the car chugs. All in all I was just wondering how many people just get in thier car and go or spend the 5-8 minutes to warm up?
Re: Warm up?
if it's hot out......I'll sit maybe 2 minutes.....on a colder day usually at least 3. my temp gauge starts to move at that time.
But then again, I'm stock and you've got a 383, so it may require more time to warm up.....I dunno.

I let it warm up for about 2 minutes. Then I take it nice and slow for the first mile on the road, or until I see the coolant temp come up. Then it's WOT.
I know you supposedly don't need to in a modern automobile. I don't care, I do it for my own piece of mind.
I want the nicest coat of oil splashed onto everything before I start making the motor spin through various RPMs.

Re: Warm up?
Some of you guys worry WAY too much. By the time you get in your car, put your seat belt on, change the radio, and turn on the heater or AC, the engine is going to be lubed for takeoff. It is smart however NOT to go WOT until operating temp, but waiting 10 mins or some of the other times you guys have thrown out is unecessary. Just wait till 160* or so then have some fun
Re: Warm up?
yup, I let it idle for about 30 seconds max, then go out and let her rip. I don't beat on it until its at the 160 mark though, but its ok to get out in traffic and run it. Otherwise you are just decreasing your already crappy mileage, and plus gas is going up! After about 10 seconds your motor is lubed, just nut up to operating temps yet.

Basically just don't get in your car and then floor it immediately, lol.
