Vote on Pilot Bushing or Bearing.. and why

My friend was telling me while the cars apart i should put a pilot bearing in there...
I argue a pilot bushing...

Ive heard problems with pilot bearings being noisy so i decided on a bushing the last time it was out..

Whats everyones opinion and do u happen to know the cost on the pilot bearing.?

I would go with a bushing, the bushings i would think would last longer. I have heard if the bearing goes bad it messes up the end of the input shaft.

When my clutch blew I had the tranny rebuilt because one of the things that was bad was a damaged input shaft which was caused by a worn out pilot bearing. My car has 150K miles on it and I doubt it was the original clutch so that means that the pilot bearing was changed at least once before (I assume) and it looked to me that the tranny was done (or something in '99) since it had a date written in yellow greasepencil on the tranny.

I hope InjectedSS meant "bushing." Bearings have moving needle bearings, which are more likely to fail. With a bushing, its just going to wear slightly, it can't fall apart and damage your input shaft/transmission. Definitely going with a bushing. When I swapped clutches earlier this summer, I replaced the old bushing with a new one.

You can do a search under my posts. I had very few miles on a brand new transmission (not rebuilt) and pilot bearing. The pilot bearing failed causing a vibration when I shifted. When I removed the tranny, there was a bad groove in my input shaft.

Another way to think about it is...what benefit would you really have with a bearing. The only time the input shaft is not spinning the same speed is while you are shifting with your clutch released. During normal driving the input shaft and bushing/bearing will be spinning the same speed.

I vote for bushing.

I have a question since i feel i have the loudest transmission in the planet. When i press in the clutch the noise goes away, right when i let it out it rattles. Also while i'm driving it makes noises to except it shifts just fine. It has a new throwout bearing that came with the slp clutch when i bought it 3 months ago. I installed a pilot bearing when i installed the clutch. Do you think it is because of the bearing or it is something else?
