MOTHER OF GOD!

They're both Borg Warner bish.

And from everything I've just done a search on, they are the same.

Found a couple of pages where they used the Viper T56 in an LT1 bell housing and bolted it up to the Camaro....didn't see anything about different sized input shafts though.

The viper tranny is not a direct bolt-on. Contact D&D performance. They currently offer a bellhousing that will allow you to use a viper tranny. THe input shafts are different on the F-body and Viper

A bud of mine is using a Viper input shaft with his f-bod M6. Did some machine work to get it to work.

Did you guys see the new Super Chevy special Chevelle magazine where some guy out a T56 out of a Viper into a 70 SS Chevelle. He also put a 502 in just for fun!

My question is Why? If I was going to do something like that I would have to have a reasonable expectation of making an improvement.

Please tell me why.

Thanks

The viper T56 is stronger, features a larger output shaft.. among other things.

I had a friend who once owned a 1994 Viper RT10. His car had low miles on it and he had to replace the tranny...

I have heard other stories about the Viper T-56's having mechanical troubles.

Maybe just bad drivers instead

Stronger is good.

Since the viper has so much torque down low, I can see why the gear ratios and rear gears can be higher than our cars, but I wonder why higher gears would be more beneficial than those on the F-Body t-56? Just curious.

Viper 1 2 66
2 1.78
3 1.30
4 1.00
5 0.74
6 0.50 Rear 3.3 (something like that)

Camaro
1 2.97
2 1.94
3 1.35
4 1.00
5 .84
6. .62
Rear 3.42

Am I missing something?

Thanks

yes, you are

you quoted a 93 T56, with the 3.23 rear end..(in an fbody)

the better, and more common 94+ T56(found in 94 and newer fbodies) is the same as the viper, and the car comes with 3.42s

there is another 93 T56 with an even steeper first.. closer to a T5.
