VIN P motor? What is it?

My camaro has a VIN P motor and direct ignition what does this mean? They mechanic said that it was a rare camaro that had these motors its a 1995 z28

soon to be fixed turns out that the former owner/mechanic had JB welded part of the distributor cap and it had broken and the heat excange was broken allowing oil in the water and water in the oil. Im just happy it didnt need a new motor

Re: VIN P motor? What is it?

never heard the term direct ignition....but yours has a vented opti spark distributer. This is on the front of the block (behind water pump) and it is driven directly by the cam. It uses on optical sensor to detect cam/crank position. The 95-97's are vented because they go bad with the slightest moister. The vent is a vacuum line that goes from the opti spark to the intake elbow. The 93-94's don't have this. This is not a stupid question. This is what the forum is for. Also to help you out....a lot of times you can find the answer quicker by putting it in the search. This is usually quicker than waiting for somebody to answer your question. Either way you are sure to get an answer

It doesn't have direct ignition. Your mechanic is uh...uninformed.
