Vibrations at 90 and above.

Ok from 0-90 my car is as smooth as butter but when you hit 90 mph it starts vibrating alot. Is this caused by my wheels being unbalanced or could it be something else, id think if it were the wheels being unbalanced it would start vibrating at lower than 90 mph.

THanks for any Replies.

does the vibration go away when the car is in neutral?
if not, probably the driveshaft or wheels

I would say the driveshaft. My car does the exact same thing. Don't bother trying to get your current DS balanced just go find a used LS1 DS and put it on.

You can go one better than a LS1 driveshaft.

Lingenfelter offers (at least they used to!) a alum. DS for your car that is dynamically balanced (balances itself with a weight inside that moves where it is needed I believe). I think I payed about $300.

Ha ha... No vibration at 140!

But seriously - my car was the same. Put new DS on. SOLVED!!

Steel stock DS is too weak and will not only rotate but "orbit" around the centerline at speed because it's like a little toothpick under there.

I still marvel at GM's choice of a driveshaft in a car that is meant to go fast. My neighbor's newer S10 has a huge aluminum DS in it - and it only has a 4 banger.

Have fun

I would go and have your wheels checked first. Have the tire shop check them for out of "true". I have a set of WS6 rims that vibrate real bad once I hit 85-90 mph. Anything lower than that that ...smooth as ever. It would be cheaper to have your rims checked first than buy a DS and have it not solve your prob.

I had the same problem. Bought a 1LE aluminum driveshaft and it solved the problem.

I have the same exact problem as you do. I got rid of a lot of the vibration though. I had part of my exhaust hitting underneath the car. So now it does it but not anywhere near where it was. I got my 1le ds coming in 2 days. So then the problem should be solved.

If i were you i would try turning the ds 180* first. While your under there check to make sure your exhaust isn't touching something it shouldn't. Then have you wheels checked. If all is good then get the DS.

No other pieces are needed. It comes ready for installation. At least mine did.

As far as your question regarding the need for the separate yokes from Lingenfelter . . .

I don't honestly know. When I bought mine from them a year ago, however, the DS was totally assembled with Spicer non-greasable U-joints, and the stub shaft to go into the tranny. Had to take a crossmember loose to get it up into the car because of the large diameter, but not too tough.

If you decide to go that route, I would just call them and find out for sure. I would think it would still be a complete unit.

I had my unit the day after I ordered it. Pretty impressive.
