Vibration coming through center console

I have a 94 Z with an A4. Its had the driveshaft replaced about 6 yrs ago with a 1LE aluminum shaft due to the steel one vibrating really bad.

Well, over the last year I have been noticing a vibration coming up through my center console. It strarts at around 85mph, and gets worse as speed increases. Its driving me crazy now that I commute down the interstate everyday.

The tranny mount is in good shape. Its an LS1 tranny mount.

I already tried the turn take it off and turn it 180 degrees thing.

Could this be a u-joint problem? Does my driveshaft need rebalancing maybe?

I called a driveline place, and they wanted $100 to replace the u-joints and balance the driveshaft. Is that a fair price?

Thanks for any help.

does it happen if you are not in OD? if it still happens at the same speed than it's probably driveshaft related...i'd say $100 is reasonable, if for nothing else preventative maintainence for the drive line.

if it happens earlier in a lower gear ti could be a mout someplace else...ie...rpm related not speed

replace the u-joints yourself. If it still does it, have it balanced.

I bet the joints fix it.

If it doesn't do it in overdrive, then would you say the torque converter is off balance then?

I'll replace the u-joints myself. They probably need it anyways. i've had quiet a few launches with this shaft.

My guess would be that you threw a weight off the driveshaft and is now un balanced causing the vibation. Couldn't hurt to replace the u joints as well.
