Vibration at 90?!

At 85-90+ I start to get a BAD vibration! I was in 4th gear ( was going wot from a stop, and just shifted into 4th ) and athere was a HUGE vibration. And it seemed the faster I'd go, the worse it'd get. Is my DS out of balance? What else can cause this? Thanks guys! Btw this is in my 95 M6

It's very possible that the driveshaft is out of balance. Did this just happen overnight, or gradually? Also, has anything hit the underside of the car?

There is a GM service bullitin about vibrating driveshafts. Do a search and I'm sure you will find info about it.

Later and good luck!

90 seems a bit high for the majority of driveshaft issues. Do you still have the stock gearing?

hmmm

I bought this car 2 months ago. I have never taken it that fast before lol so I can' t be too sure how long its been there. I don't remember anything hitting the underside at all. Thanks guys! Should I just try to buy an ls1 ds and see if that fixes it? ( An excuse to mod it anyways )

i'd put 500$ on its ur driveshaft my 94 would be fine then i'd hit 85 or 90+ and it vibrated harder and harder...got aluminum driveshaft and it was fine, at 120 or 130 the gear shifter felt like a jack hammer...now smooth as can be

Buy an ls1 aluminum driveshaft for around $100 bucks and that should solve your problem - did mine!

you know.... i get the same thing, but its not the ds... it happens on transams with the wings mostly... my rear trunk is a bit loose, and when i go about 80mph or so the wind makes it 'flop' and since at 80 the wind current is pretty strong, it will vibrate the whole car... the ds will make a very annoying sound, and will vibrate our center console mostly...

I seem to recall this as being a pre-'95 issue with the driveshafts... Certainly a better, lighter, and stringer driveshaft is always a good thing. If you are going to do it, you should buy a driveshaft loop as well. They are cheap and add a bit of safety insurance.

That's quite a bet...his tires may need to be balanced or they could be wearing...

I also have a bad vibration at 85+, I've been told that an LS1 driveshaft will fix that.

You can always take your car (or driveshaft) to a driveline shop. They will be able to tell you if it's still balanced, or if it needs to be repaired/replaced.

If you are on a limited budget, this might be the best thing to do.
