Very high pitched whine/scream coming from engine block
Re: Very high pitched whine/scream coming from engine block
you might want to take a step back before pulling your heads.
As has been suggested the WP or Opti (cap getting contact from rotor) may be the cause.
Hard to follow your threads...but I think you mentioned something about the air pump. It should only run for around a minute on initial cold start up...doubtful it is the air pump but unplug it to confirm it is not source of noise.
pulling heads is not really going to reveal much regarding noise if it is internal engine. The rod, crank or cam bearings failing would leave metal flakes in the oil if that is what is causing the screeching noise
Maybe your WP impeller is making contact with the WP housing...you could easily tell by removing the front cover from it or removing WP and spinning the spline shaft
you need to do more specific diagnostics before tearing apart the motor

Makes sense... Im just tired of this dam whine... I mean i have a 15 Camaro that i drive daily but i wanna get this baby up and running... I think im just stubborn to the fact that i hear a screech from something spinning and not a whistle from something leaking or sucking in air... But ill look at the water pump today....hopefully that's it... Thanks for the advice...
Re: Very high pitched whine/scream coming from engine block
if it was the opti making noise you would have felt binding or heard some noise just spinning the spline by hand. Pulling the cap would have also shown if cap was in contact with rotor (plastic shavings inside)
if that whine/screech was from a bearing you should see metal flakes in oil if motor has run for a few minutes making that sound
None of us are saying it isn't internal engine noise, just way more likely a accessory (you ruled that out by pulling belt) or something driven by motor (WP & Opti) so check that stuff out first
A automotive stethoscope for around $5 from Harbor Freight would be helpful identifying what part of the motor it making noise.
when you pull the WP, inspect the coupler inside for striped splines. same for WP & WP drive spline. Grab the WP drive spline and see if it has excessive slop in it
Re: Very high pitched whine/scream coming from engine block
Agreed with other posters, you could even remove the water pump and start the vehicle again to rule out out. I'd like add the W/ pump drive gear bearing the list of likely culprits. It's behind the timing cover could very well be your noise
Re: Very high pitched whine/scream coming from engine block
Use a stethescope to listen to the alternator for bearing noise. Thats' if you haven't already disconnected the drive belt.
More noise from an already noisey engine is anoying.
