Valvetrain Suggestions

Upgrading the valvetrain because I have the hotcam but a stock valvetrain. I have stock heads and do not want to machine them. Here is what I have decided on so far:

Crane 10308-1 spring kit
1.6 NSA Comp Pro-mag 7/16
GM Guideplates
GM intake valve seals
GM exhaust valve seals

1.My question is what Spring seats should I use?
2.What one piece chromemoly pushrod do you guys recommend?
3.Should I get stock replacement lifters or something else?

Parts numbers would be great! Thanks

I would use Trickflow chromemoly pushrods and their guide plates.

The pushrod part number will depend on what length you need.

Trickflow guide plates: Part # 30400623

If you are already running a Hotcam on a low mileage engine, no need to change the lifters.

Only the shortblock is low mileage. I believe I would need stock length pushrods... right? I read on the boards that only the GM guideplates worked. Anyone else have input?

Looks good to me. As far as Chrom Prs, I guess any good brand will do. I use crowers, even though I have SA RRs.

Do a search, there have been problems with the GMPP guideplates. I just installed Trickflow guideplates, and they align the rockers near perfect.

i would avoid the gm guideplates. use the trick flows, and the trick flow pushrods are much cheaper than any other

and although you already made your mind up, i would recomend some pac 1218 springs

I would stick with Comp's rocker arms, not the Trickflows.

your engine is a LT1, and stock lifters should be fine, again the chromolly trickflow pushrods are much cheaper

1. Ones that fit the springs you intend to use
2. Trickflow to go with the TF guide plates
3. If your stock rockers are good then you don't need new ones. If you just want to buy new ones for the hell of it then get Comp stock replacement, not the Comp R's.

1. The seats for those springs. Call comp to find the part number
2. I'm using comp chromeoly rods, and have been happy with them
3. Don't think you'll need lifters.

You will need 7/16" studs as stock are 3.8". ARP makes a good set part #: 134-7103

As for the GMPP plates, I read the same thing you did about them being the only plates which align the pushrods correctly, but here is a pic of them after being install in my car for ~20k miles:

Notice every singe plate has worn on the outsides. This tells me the pushrods were trying to spread open, which would mean the spacing is not right. There is a machinist on the board who tested the hardness of the GMPP plates, and they didn't even register on the scale!

I ordered a set of Manley plates (part # 42355-8) to replace them with, after speaking with Chad Golen, who recommended these plates for the LT1 spacing.

Thomas.

I went on the trickflow website and ONLY saw trickflow rockers for the LT1 engine. I know I have an LT1. thats why I used it as a serch criteria! All that came up for a 95 chevrolet 5.7L 350 was ROLLER ROCKERS. Send me a link to where the guide plates and push rods are. I checked jegs, summit and trickflows own website.

I had no intention of changing the Comp RR I have already chosen.

I am asking for help choosing a spring seat to fit the Crane 10308's because I am not too familiar with valvetrain components and don't want to machine the head or order incorrect parts.

The spring kit comes with shims but I have read its better to use seats and thats why I asked. I will call and find out if they have a recommended seat for the springs.

I thought i might need lifters since they were still the originals and had 140K on them and the spring set is pretty strong.

Keep the input coming guys!

The stock spring seats will accommodate the springs you are getting---don't know if they will accommodate separate spring seats. JMHO
