Valvetrain refresh

Its time for me to do a refresh of my valvetrain.Of course i dont have a big budget

First my car will made a simple 350whp thats it with a small cam.I ll keep it reliable and fun summer daily driver.

I want to change the stock 1.5 rocker with some 1.6rr self align and change the valve spring.Since im from canada ,i dont want to order from to much place at the same time.

Since im ordering a couple of parts from summitracing right now:

Headers gasket:
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=476271
Motor mount poly
O2 extension
1" headers bolts
some band clamp and heat tape

I would like to order the things that i need from them.So far i ve found those 16.rr
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I ve heard good thing about them from some members. Is this the good part number for my lt1?

But when it come to valve spring im lost.Im searching for something similar to the lt4 one or maybe a little stiffer. Can someone help me find the one that i need and why?

What tool do i need?

Do i need something else?

Thanks for your help

Re: Valvetrain refresh

Those roller rockers will work fine, and you can get the LT4 spring kit from summit. The 26915 or 26918 compcams springs are a much better alternative. Don't forget to change the valves seals when you're in there. As for the spring tool, I use the crane tool that copresses 2 springs at once, a bit pricey but very useful.

For the springs since im on a tight budget and i will keep my stock cam for at least2-3 years i would like to buy some lt4 one but i could nt find them on their web sites Do you have any part number?

So:

Re: Valvetrain refresh

those summit rockers wont work. the "self aligning tip"....the one that's made up of the washers on the roller bearing...contacts the retainer. i know because i had a similar set and had to wait months to swap mine out. you're going to have to go with a set of higher end rockers like comp cams rockers. their SA tips are molded into the rocker arm and not an add-on to the bearing. plus they are very low profile so they clear the retianer/spring.

if you're looking for new pushrods with the swap i have a set of TF's i'm not using any more....they are stock replacement 1 piece hardened.

when i had my issues with the rockers i had a CC306 cam kit that came with springs/retainers (factory style)....those were the ones with the issues. i dont know if lt4 kit has a problem....for those wanting to argue the point.

SLP has a nice spring compressor that you dont have to remove the head from the block. you can swap the springs, retianers, seals and rockers without removing the head.

Re: Valvetrain refresh

comp cams gold race or pro-magnum rockers. i think they're the only ones that use the molded tip to make it self aligning and not some added on washers.

the problem i had was the washer hitting the retainer. i imagine if the washer is small enough it will fit fine...but i still wouldnt take the chance again with all the problems i had returning or trying to sell them...took me 6 months to sell them to someone who had proper springs/retainers to use them.
