valvesprings! big cam! need advice!

I called comp cams, and they told me to put on LS1 springs on my LT1 w/ a mean cam!?!?!?!?
What is wrong w/ this picture?
they told me to put on 26918 comp cam valvesprings good to .655" (acording to comp cams) and are made for LS1s (single COIL!)

I want to go dual coil, the heads are already off the car, waiting on machine work so that is not a problem.

I am asking is there a problem w/ using these LS1 valvesprings? or should I go w/ one of the following:
CC 987 Dual Coil valvesprings
CC 978 Dual Coil valvesprings
EX component 618 Dual Coil valvesprings

If you have any info on any of these and their lift #s it would be appreciated, or any other springs that would work for my cam

the cam is a 230/236 112 .580/.592 (w/ my 1.6s)

thanks again,

Why go with two when one will work.Springs don't know which engine they are running on.
Lift doesn't determine which spring you run, your ramp speed, valve train weight,RPM's and such stuff as that tells what spring to run.

The springs they suggested to you are the "beehive" springs. I have read some about them and they are suppose to have advantages over the double springs. But I don't know a lot of people with experience with them.

Just do a search for beehive springs and you should find some info.

www.cmotorsports.com and look at there 612 kit comes with locks, retainers, and springs, they are a single spring. but they will handle it. they carry a little more pressure that the 987, not much though but the whole kit is 109. and these will work on the cam you want. i was going to use them on a cam with steeper ramps and they would have been fine, need to use titanium retainers when ever you can. the more weight you can get off the top of that spring the better. lift is good to .600

and a beehive spring is not better than a double spring.

but if you want to you can get the 618 kit the spring pressure on these are 148 closed and 370 open. and im using them on a cam with alot steeper ramps than the 230 236. lift is good to .630, and these do require machineing, becuase of the double spring.

where are you getting that cam from. thats an odd lift.

YOU my friend are wrong.
I have those springs now and I have bent 2 valves because of them shattering in 3 pieces. they are NOT good to .600"

The cam is from cmotorsports.com it is the one w/ .544/.555 lift w/ 1.5s but I have 1.6s and it is .580/.592 when you calculate it out.

I want springs good to way better than .600" because of that crap I have had happen already to this motor... I want it bulletproof.

just going by what they told me. sorry.

but i dont think you will find a spring thats good to anything over .600 without machineing the heads

what I mean is w/ that not an issue. I pulled the heads because I dynoed and it was very bad. spikey before 2800rpms and after 4800rpms I am hoping it was coilbind (yes w/ the ex 612s and my lift)

I can see that .600" lift is also quite close to .592" that my cam goes to, which is why I wanted more than .600"

thanks,

"beehive" style springs are spose to be the newest and greatest technology out for street motors!
excellent high rpm control
i believe there is a decnt sized thread about them in the advanced tech section...might wanna search for it and see what the gurus say about them

985's work very well too tho, single coil style

my cam isnt exactly tame but the lift isnt gynormous and i run the 985's just fine

My friend ran the beehive springs on his 93 before he blew it up. 7000 RPM on a 10 year old stock bottom end isn't a good idea. But the valves didn't float.

I just want to be able to get the car to 6100rpms where my cam makes peak I have made it to 4800rpms but the car jumped 50-75hp on dyno I think from coilbind but we shall see
I want 345rwhp!@#*&$@#(*&%$*()

No problem. Is that 230/236 a custom grind? My 230/236 specs out to .544/.555 with 1.6 rockers.

wow you may be right, it may only be .544/.555 lift, I have been frantically looking for the cam card for 2 days now so I guess it is? In that case I wouldn't need any more than the 26918s... hmm...

there are different lobe profiles of that cam with the same duration so check it before you install a weaker spring

check www.combinationmotorsports.com cam section and you can see the different lift numbers of the same duration 230/236

EDIT: i'm bored as hell
TN-230XL 230/236 duration, .544"/.555", 112lsa $247.97
TN-230HL 230/236 duration, .598"/.608", 112lsa $247.97
TN-230XH 230/236 duration, .622"/.624", 112lsa $247.97

but the XL version is the most common of the 3 listed (so chances are.....)

That's what I was wondering about. I think he switched the 1.5 and 1.6 measurements.

IE

.544/1.5 = .3626 *1.6 = .580

.555/1.5 = .37 * 1.6 = .592

** I'm bored too. **
