valve train question

hey, anybody with an LT1 that is running aftermarket 1.6 roller rockers and stock valve springs have any problems with it (that is, the stock valve springs working ok?).

Re: valve train question

The stock valve spring is too close to coil bind (total height of the spring when compressed) for 1.6 RR's. I have a friend that ran the stock springs and after about 5K miles he broke 2 pushrods (***** on the end broke off). Never did find one of the *****

Re: valve train question

Some people will tell you that they are running 1.6 rockers with no problem, while the vast majority of people (including myself) will tell you that it is a bad idea, and not worth the risk. At least upgrade to the LT4 springs for as cheap as they are.

Re: valve train question

LT4 springs, retainers and keepers. If ya don't ya liable to break a stock retainer and drop a valve. Cost me a complete engine-- block,2 heads, etc.

Re: valve train question

Whats the max lift on a stock LT1 valve spring?
What exactly is coil bind? I should think throw on some 1.6's would not hurt.

Re: valve train question

Coil bind is a condition when you're trying to compress the spring beyond the point where all the coils of the spring are touching each other.

Re: valve train question

i ran 1.6 rockers on my stock springed LT1(my 93) and it ran beautiful....and i beat the **** out of it on a daily basis. Also i ran a 13.4 at 106 with just rockers and a catback with a hollowed cat.So..i guesss its just luck(just like with anything else)

Re: valve train question

If your engine has alot of miles I would change the springs. I put 1.6 pro mags and LT4 springs on mine @165k. I couldn't believe the difference. Besides a stiffer spring will improve power because it closes the valve quicker(don't go excessively stiff though).
