valve spring questions

valve spring questions

well i have got all my stuff ordered but i forgot to get my valve springs. i know a guy that is selling a set of double springs with the 986-16 comp cam spring set. what i am asking is will this set fit in the stock seats and will it bind with my new 1.6 RRs and my 224/230 XE grind cam? can anyone gimme some insight on springs and what i am looking for?

Lots of guys are using the Comp 918 beehive springs. They were originally designed for the LS1 heads, but will work in an LT1 with the right retainers/locks etc. The XE cams certainly need a good spring, due to the aggressive ramp rates of the lobes, and the 918 beehives seem to be the latest fashionable spring to use with these cams.

Comp recommends this spring - but I only see this recommendation with 1.5 rockers, so I don't know if they're OK with 1.6's. There's probably no problem, though. Search the LT1 forum, and you'll find a variety of opinions on whether or not these springs will work properly using stock seats in stock heads.
