Valve spring question.

Valve spring question.
My question is;is it a must to use a valve spring micrometer when you install new springs.I put the new ones on the way the old ones were on; with a shim under each one.Should I buy a Valve spring micrometer and go over them or am I good.It's the lt4 hot cam kit springs.
