valve spring question???
valve spring question???
i put crane 1.6rr on with new push rods and crane double valve springs. my car just dosn't run like it should it kinda idels different . and the only thing i an think of is that maybe the valve springs are to heavy for the stock cam. is that possible?i was going to switch them out with a set of springs from a lt4 hot cam kit just to see if it makes a difference. what do you guys think?
Does it sound like it is struggling to run?
If so maybe your rockers are to tight.
I set mine to 1/4 turn pass zero lash then another 1/8 when I crank the locks down.
Don't forget that zero lash is when the pushrod has no up and down movement. ( You'll feel a very slight drag on the pushrod) If the push rod won't spin then your past zero lash.
Good luck.

the rockers are adjusted right we adjusted them while the car was runnijng there thightened 1/4 of a turn. the car just seems like it should have more power. like when i went to the strip it was running low 13's my car ran 13.5 with just a cold air intake. and i have added headers catback exhaust roller rockers 52mm tb, all new hal shocks , pcm forless tunning, (i know the tunning is good so it's not that) et streets, different injectors msd ignition and everything. my 60 ft is 2.0 that sucks and i am launching at 4000. there are no codes or nothing so the only thing i can think of is the springs. the car kinda has little pops in it. all the plugs and plug wires are good to. so could the springs be two heavy for the stock cam???
Not knowing alot about valvetrain I can't really tell you for sure but someone posted in here that heavy springs don't rob that much power. The energy it takes to open your valves will be gained back when they are closing. Of yourse you will loose some from friction but that will happen anyways. I was subscribed to that thread....I'll see if I can find it for ya. You might do a search for recent posts involving valve springs.
One generally tries to match the springs with the cam (and of course, with other valve train components). Why did you select those springs? Anyway, if you set those Crane springs up properly, they shouldn't affect the idle dramatically as you describe. I think you need to look for some other problem.
I guess it is ok to adjust your valve train while it is running, but I would feel more comfortable about doing it with the engine off while each valve is completely closed and turn down 1/2 turn from 0 lash.
At least you know that they are all set the same.
Adjusting them while the engine is running until each one is quiet doesn't sound like a very the ideal method.
I would try it just to see if it makes a difference.JMHO

adjusting them while the car is running is the ideal way to do it. because if you have a weak lifter or what ever then it will take it out. but i justm want to know can the springs i have be to strong for my cam?
