valve spring problem in a 93/94
valve spring problem in a 93/94
Heres my situation...
My origonal engine that was in my car is experiencing pretty bad blow-by, and the crank is damaged due to the crank hub. I picked up a new engine and planned on swapping the valve train over. My origonal engine was a 94, and my new engine is a 93. I am running a comp cams 224/230, with 1.6 RR, with comp cams 986 dual valve srpings.
When i went to put my old valves (the 986's) on the new engine, i ran into a problem. The inner spring on the 986 will not fit! I am not exactly sure what it is hitting, but i am assuming it is the valve seal. It is resting on the highest point of the valve assembly (but not the valve stem).
I Was just looking in my haynes manual and noticed there are two types of valve seals. There is the o ring type and the umbrella type. The o ring type actualy looks like it has a larger diameter base on it. (this would be the valve guide i guess?) Can this be my problem?
What do i do to solve this problem?

Re: valve spring problem in a 93/94
I have a 93 and am running the same exact cam and springs. When I installed the springs I installed new stem seals as well. Don't remember the part # but they were umbrella style and they were Felpro's for a 93....don't remember the cost but think it was around $20 or so. No problem fitting inner springs over them...went together real smooth. You know that the 93 was speed density and has no MAF...also 93's had 22# injectors and had a different intake and fuel rails. I'm assuming you are using the 94 PCM ,intake and rails and MAF.

Yes, i am using my intake, fuel rails, oil pressure sending unit and MAF.
Before you took your old valve seals off, were the old ones alot bigger? MAybe that is all i have to do.
