When checking the height do you measure to the top of the retainer or to the top of the spring? I have 10308 crane springs with 1.6's and 230/236 cam. I think I'm getting valve float, at 5200 rpm it drops 15 to 20 hp and then starts to climb to 330 at 5900. There is also a noise it starts making when hit 5200 rpm.

You are measuring the length of the spring only. Info (pic at bottom of page)

 

Ok I measured the installed lenght to be 1.84". Can somone tell me the corect height for crane 10308, I think it is 1.8" but not sure. Is .04" going to make a difference?
