Valve spring help

I am swapping my valve springs. and the KD type http://shbox.com/ci/ci173.jpg arms are too short to grab the whole spring. Can I just grab as much of the spring as the arms will reach (like is shbox's pic)? it doesnt seem to compress it enough to get the locks engaged in the retainers.

Thanks for your help

Re: Valve spring help

Those KD style are ok, but I never liked certain brands that have short "fingers". I personally found the level style far easier and faster and works much better with double and triple springs.

Yes I've done double springs in the engine bay, it works with the style above.

It's also helpful to use a hammer and socket and loosen up the retainers with several hard taps.

What kind of springs are you putting in??? that kd tool works good for stock springs. but i'd def reconmend the level type listed above. its alot easier. and it IS possible too do cyl. 7 and 8 with it.

Re: Valve spring help

I am using a set of Patriot Golds. I ended up making a valve spring compressor like the crane type. I can do two at a time. It worked out pretty good. Thanks for all the input.
