Which valve covers for 1.6's?

Like the title says, what options are available for the 1.6 rockers when it comes to valve covers?

Most people here use the stock valve covers with 1.6 rockers. You have to modify the support webbing to get them to work right (in most cases).

Other than that there are LT4 valve covers, a set I always see on eBay. Any set of center bolt valve covers should work but in most cases the RH valve cover has to be modified for the alternator bracket

I was hoping someone made a set that didnt need to be modified. And I dont really like the LT4 style....was hoping for something polished. Oh well, looks like once again the LT1 guys get screwed

You can use the stock valve covers with the 1.6 rockers with out modifing them. That is if they are the Crane gold SA or GMPP rockers like in the hot cam kit. HTH

You can also grind down the altenator to work with raised valve covers.

Thats an idea I never considered. Happen to have any pictures of such a setup? curious to see how much and where you had to grind.

I've got a set of Moroso polished aluminum covers. They are designed for LT1 Vettes. Had to gr4ind the rear, bottom of the alternator case. It's a trial and error thing. Put the covers on, position the alternator and keep grinding a little at a time until it slips in place.

1.6 valve covers

I have just recieved my set of covers from bobby murray chevrolet. The center bolt valve covers are drop dead gorgeous. the part number is 12497978. they work great with my 1.6's. Take a look at the GM performance web site.

Just so you know the GM 1.6 RR that come with the Hot Cam kit are exactly the same as the Crane Gold. In fact Crane makes them for GM as per an article in Chevy High Performance magazine. Also I like the siver color better than the gold. Not that color matters. So you might be able to get them cheaper than Cranes by going though Jason Cromer & getting GM's.

Just a heads up for you if you don't want to wait for the Cranes.

Check my sig & click on the link for pics of my GM 1.6 RR's.

Angry

save your money and dont buy the LPE valve covers because mine the 1.6 rockers hit in 8 diffrent places and made alot of noise until i ground out those areas now no noise hell i could have done that to my stock ones but the LPEs look alot better.
