valve cover gasket chewed up by rockers!!!

I have the fel-pro (blue) valve cover gaskets. Last time that I had the covers off I must have got the drivers side gasket stuck half in the valve cover groove, and half laying in the top of the head near the rocker arms. Six of the rockers caught the gasket and tore peices of the gasket off. The peices are as long as the rockers that hit them and about half of the gasket width wide. I found four of the peices laying around the valve springs. I took off the intake to see if the other two were in there, and never found them. Things get worse... I tore into the motor today because of a weird sqeeking sound that it was making, almost like a pully that was really dry or something. Could the peices of gasket material have got down past the valves and into the cylenders themselves and caused some damage? Thanks, sorry that it was kind of long.

I wouldn't worry about them getting inthe the cylinders. The problem is if they get sucked somehow by the oil pump and could cause blockage or something.

I would try draining the oil, looking in there and then cutting the oil filter open and see if you can find any pieces in there. then obviousily refill the oil and a new filter and go from there.

I just used that same gasket blue ones. They seemed to fit pretty good, required a little stretching but that helps it stay on when you have to shove those valve covers back on.

Re: valve cover gasket chewed up by rockers!!!

well, this is what I figured....I found one of the peices of gasget under one of the valve springs, I'm hoping that the squeeking that I heard was from that peice of rubber. I changed the oil yesterday before I started the motor, so I can't say that I saw any contamination in the oil. hopefully the two peices that I didn't find were in the oil filter or the oil pan. Thanks for the advice though all. I'll post what happenened after the intake and valve covers are back on. I guess that is the best that I can hope for. thanks
