Value Number- Car Key (help!)
I need to know where I can get the value number for the key on my car.
I have a 95 LT1 Trans Am and I lost a key for it and need to replace it. The key had a special rubber piece with a VAT CHIP inside of it to be recognized by the ignition and enable the car to start up. It is for a Pass11 key.
Anyway, I just really need to know where I can find the value number on the car. Is it in the VIN number or in the glove box where all the other codes are? ?If anyone can help me to tell me where this is I'd really appreciate it.

I think the dealer can look it up if you give them your VIN. They also have a tool in their shop, called an "interrogator" that they can insert in the key hole and read from the PassKey module what it is supposed to be. Unless you measured and recorded the value yourself, there is no other way to know what it is (AFAIK). I recommend everyone record the value of the pellet in their key.
Sounds good.
I was just avoiding going to the dealership because well, I just don't like going to dealerships in the first place. I'll take you guys up on your advice and head over there and ignore the many people getting ripped off for new cars (always buy used - not much difference between 0 miles and 15-25,000 miles for thousands of dollars cheaper
).
Hopefully it will be under 25 bucks. I appreciate the advice guys. Take it easy.
