Using a double roller timing chain/vented, non vented opti
Using a double roller timing chain/vented, non vented opti
I have a 1994 lt1 camaro. I bought all my parts from a friend that had a 1996 lt1 motor. After putting the cam in and more of the front of the motor in i seen that the cam was set up for a vented opitspark, Where my motor was set up with a non-vented one. Well i also order a double roller timing chain that i put on and didn't no people was having so much trouble with it fitting right. Well my question is what would i need to do for the timing chain to fit? some people say it will fit fine with the vented set up which im going to do anyways because of the way my cam is set up that the spline drive optispark wouldn't work, that's also my other question on the spline drive optispark what goes over the spline in order for it to fit inside the cam? or is there anything at all? Also on the vented optispark will my same harness work or would i need to get a whole new wiring harness for it to work for a vented optispark. Also would i need to do anything with my pin on the cam for it to fit with the vented opti, and fit with the double roller timing chain, some people are saying i would need to cut it. If so how much. The cam i'm going with is a cc306.
Re: Using a double roller timing chain/vented, non vented opti
The splined drive shaft does not "fit in the cam". It engages splines inside the hole in the cam sprocket. Hence, it won't work with a timing set that does not incorporate the splines in the cam sprocket.
The harness connector on a vented Opti is longer than the connector on the unvented Opti, and has to be changed to match the Opti type. EFIConnection sells a replacement harness - it's just the short piece that goes from the gray connector on the bracket on the side of the intake manifold, to the Opti.

Also what would I need for the double roller timing chain to fit right, just cut the pin down ? Also for this to all work I need to get a nonvented opti, new timing cover, the wire. Seem right? If there is something im forgetting please tell me.

Are you also aware the water pump is driven off the timing set, and the aftermarket part will not likely have the teeth on the cam sprocket for the water pump drive, requiring a switch to an electric water pump?
Maybe an even better question - why do you need a double roller timing set?
