Using diesel to clean engine components?

Someone on here told me to use diesel to clean my cam before putting it in. Can anybody verify this is a good thing to do? (I mean using diesel, I know I need to clean it) Also, what all can I use it on? Can I use it on lifters and such too?

I use kerosene and it works great. Sprays off easily with water too. Basically the same thing gunk is, it just doesn't come in a nice orange spraycan.

Diesel, kerosene and jet fuel are all basically the same thing. They will all work equally well for cleaning and are not as likely to blow up in your face as gasoline.

hell I've used JP-8 to clean parts before and it worked great, just got a little dizzy from the fumes. JP-8 is what is used in Army helicopters.
