Using 96 Engine w/ crank sensor of 95 PCM?
I purchased a 96 lt1 and was wondering if I can just leave that timing cover with the crank sensor in there but just dont plug it in. I have a 1995 single cat Trans Am. I have a Hotcam, 95 timing cover, elec wp, and coyees timing chain. I just dont really have the time to swap everything right now and I will be pulling the motor back out in the spring to put back in my 95 engine that will be rebuilt for a turbo. I would also like to be able to sell this complete stock short block.
Just leave the sensor in there, also note the balancer hubs are different lengths because of the cps sensor wheel. So dont interchange those parts if you plan to intermingle pieces during the swap.
The impy and caprice lt1 hub is about 1/4" longer than the fbody one iirc, so you really dont have a cheapp option there other than to buy a hub from a 96 fbody at the junkyard. Otherwise you're gonna throw belts left and right. I'm not a huge fan of pro products, but thier sfi damper comes with a series of spacers to make it work with any lt1 setup.
However, i didnt think any b-body's had crank position sensors, but i have been wrong before, and i dont wrench on em so i dont know.
