Exclamation Urgent. How to remove cylinder head?!

I have all the bolts removed from the cyliner head and all the hoses and lines. I need some help on how to remove the cylinder head. It's on there pretty tightly and I can't get it off. Any ideas anyone? I need this off fast. I've already tried hitting it with a mallet gently and it won't budge. Thanks for the help.

Make sure you removed all 17 bolts... After you get them all off I've never had a cylinder head that's not popped off with just a bit of effort.

I'm not aware of any good leverage points where you wouldn't hurt/gouge the aluminum.

There's two dowel pins that are alignment points that hold the head on.. towards the middle.. but it's nothing that should keep you from pulling it off.

Rock the head back and forth grabbing it from the intake side to try to break the seal. Use a set of gloves so you don't rip your hands up and you can get a good grip.

You work on your car late at night kiddo

I don't stop till I literally start not being able to think straight. wow...like my typing right now. I'm throwing in the towel. 3:00's pushing the enjoyment of pulling off that head.

lol...and you still owe me a PM Jav.

Stick the wooden end of a hammer or some other soft object in the intake port and use that to pry the head off.

don't pry too hard you could either damage the head or it could pop off right onto your foot

A rubber hammer can work magic. You don't need to beat the crap out of it just give it several taps all around the head.

Had the same problem myself--the gaskets are sometimes hard to break loose. Screw in 2 bolts on the front end of the head . Use a crowbar or screwdriver to pry inbetween the bolts, this will help you "break loose" the gasket. Then lift the head straight up.....

LOL - forgot to add the important part - always leave the center bolt screwed in a few threads so that when it breaks loose it does not land on your foot

Was just a bit sticky. I ended up getting it off after taking a rubber mallet to it and tapping it around the head

Thanks guys.

If he can pry it off the engine in an F-body engine compartment and have it land on his foot, that would be some trick

True dat... I thought he had it on an engine stand Im used to working on motorcycles.

Glad you got it off safely I use the rubber mallet trick all the time cause I can't pry the head off due to motorcycle engines being studded.

I sometimes use a 'dead blow' mallet which is a plastic hammer with some weight inside it.
