Unlock trick

My mom taught me a neat trick I thought I would pass on about how to unlock a car using a remote from a distant location. Say you locked your keys in your car and you had an extra remote at home. Call home and have the person at the other end press the unlock button while pointing the remote at the phone and point your cell phone at the car at the same time and presto it unlocks. I tried this on our Sebring and it worked perfect. I tried it on my 94 corvette and it was a no-go but I am sure that is because of the FOB. This should work on any car that uses a remote to unlock the car.

Ok it appears that we had way to much to drink because I just tried it on the Sebring again and realized I had to get a block away before the thing would not open with out the phone, and no the phone idea does not work. It just goes to show you shouldn't have a bunch of drunks tiring to conduct scientific experiments

Re: Unlock trick

I heard that only works on the new picture phones and you have to hold it directly above the steering column so the VATS module could visually confirm it.

Re: Unlock trick

physics wise...if the cell speaker can reproduce the sound, and the reciever cell can send the sound, and if the transmitter cell can reproduce the signal "loud" enough...there is no reason why the cell phones cant be repeaters. but since they were designed to carry signals ranging from 35-30kHz, they will never be able to tx signals of the UHF, VHF, or basically anything higher than audible sound.
