Under Dash Scanner Plug

I brought my car yesterday to the tranny shop to have some work done to it and when they tried hooking the scanner up under the dash, they wern't getting any power going to it. Now my question is is that plug powered by the accessory fuse in the fuse panel because my accessory fuse has always blown since I bought the car. I know the fuse controls the cig lighter and other things so I was wondering if that powered the plug. Once I put a fuse in there it only lasts a few minutes before it blows.

If its not related to that fuse, what would cause me to not have any power going to the plug? I kinda have to have the plug working by monday because with New Yorks new law, they have to scan the car for inspection.

I had the same problem yesterday. You will have to run cables from the scanner to your battery for power. I have not yet identified the problem.

No offense, but you really need to find out why the fuse keeps blowing.

Any ideas why it might be blowing? Its just the cig adapter fuse that blows. It never worked since I bought the car 2 years ago. I was thinking about just running a fused line from the batter to the cig adapter to bypass it and make it work. The cig adapter isn't a pressing issue since I dont smoke or use the outlet.

I removed my cig lighter, wrapped in tape, put it back - problem solved. But it may not work for you. You really need to find out where this wire is grounded.
