i just bought a set of Pacesetter LT's from a friend out of the box for a very good price. they have the emissions fittings and are LT's the only problem is they are uncoated. should i just put them in like that or is there a way i can get them coated for a good price? my car is a 94Z A4.

 

Depends on where you live. If you live in a climate where there's snow/ice and salt is used on the road then the coating will look like *** in a matter of minutes unless you want to wash the engine off every time it is exposed.

 

i live near Amarillo Tx it snows from time to time here. should i get them coated? and where is the cheapest to get them coated? and should i coat the ORY or just the Headers

 

unless you can get them ceramic coated don't bother. Pretty much any coating that doesn't burn off within the first few minutes of run time will wear off in the matter of a month or two. Header paint applied in many coats can last up to a year but not much longer. Best setup I've seen is header paint then wrapping the headers. Seems to last a while. That is what Im doing to my bike's header when I get it.

 

Don't bother coating the Ypipe. As stated it's best if you got the ceramic coating if you go that route. It runs somewhere around $200 if not more. I know it snows up there . I've been up 287 to 87 many times when I lived in DFW and would go to Denver. Basically if you want to get them coated and you want it to last then DO NOT drive the car in the snow if your area uses road salt.

 

I would definitely coat them if you have the money, I would also coat the y-pipe while you are at it because it will start to rust as well. If you can't afford the coating process, I would at least paint the headers with some good quality header paint.

 

Coating is good---but it costs a bunch and you are not gaining much other than longevity and hotter inside and cooler outside.

I'd skip the paint and power coating crap and esp wraps.

Slap'em in and if they exposed to salt rins'em off good.

You can't see them anyway, so doing it for looks is kind of a waste too.

Having said this about that----ideally one should get the best LT, SS headers available, ceramic coated inside and out. JMHO

 

is jet hot a good kind to go with or is ther something cheaper for the same quality?

 

Jet-Hots are very good, Pacesetters are very similar in terms of quality and cost a little less.

So, its not worth the extra $150 price to get the Armor Coated Pacesetters compared to the painted ones right? I live in STL, MO and it snows a little bit. If the coating wont last a few years I dont even know why it needs to be on there, let me know, THANKS ---

 

The coating on my Pacesetters hasn't been the greatest either, but for the 400 bucks I paid for them, I can't complain too much. They are still a pretty decent quality header for the money. Once I overhaul the motor eventually, I may have the long tubes and y-pipe stripped and coated with better quality stuff, but until then I'm not too worried.

 

The coating on my Pacesetters has started to rust and that was in less then a years time. It is unfortunate considering my car never sees rain or snow. If they were uncoated though, they would most likely be completly rusted in a matter of weeks.

 

Completely rusted doesnt bother me, BUT I dont want them to rust through quicker , ---

 

check out some of the POR products....POR-10 and POR-15. i think it's the 10 series that is high temp...and you can either anodize the metal or paint it...i think it's better than any ceramic coating and it'll probably last longer and look better.
