Ugh! MY Headlights Again!

What keeps happening to them. Well my car is exhibiting all the symptoms of a stripped headlight gear with one very odd very irritating corrolation. On monday I went out to eat with my roommate when we were leaving, my passenger side headlight wouldnt open, this is pretty normal ..so I just kind of let it sit for awhile..and I kept trying it and it wouldnt work..so I just kind of popped my hood and tried to see if I could nudge it open while my roommate tried the switch.
Around that time some guy came buy claimed he knew how to fix it, and said I could just use the manual **** to open it, which of course I knew, but I didnt want to do that...but despite me saying I knew of the "trick" he wanted to show me..so he did it and it he kept turning it and it wouldnt turn either way....it sounded like it was stripped...so the guy then left .
So of course when I try the lights they both work, I think everything is fine and back to normal. But when I turn off my car this grinding sound persists from that motor for like a good 5-10 seconds...which I hear is normal, but I've never heard it happen. So that sucked but I got over it...now since then, when I use my little keyfob to unluck my car, they headlights pop up, they dont turn on just pop up...and when you put the key in or re-lock it they go down, with the addition of that grinding sound! What is Going on!?

Thanks for any help!
Nathan

The 5 to 10 second grind indicates a stripped gear. The headlights popping up and down when they shouldn't is also another symptom of a stripped gear because the headlight module is "confused" so to speak. Fix the stripped gear problem and the other headlight gremlins to away as well

Brent has a nice write up on his website ( http://www.bfranker.badz28.com ) on how to fix it. Do yourself a favor and just order the metal gear from him, it will save you time from having to do it later

Heck, for the $36, why not just rebuild it with a new gear? Pain in the butt enough to remove that motor once, let alone 2 times.
